The sights, sounds, and delicious smells of summer are returning to Aroostook County! Whether you are here for the roar of the fireworks or the splash of the cardboard boat races, there is a piece of Maine’s lakeside heritage waiting for you.
Who is this event for?
This celebration is built for everyone! Whether you are a lifelong Portage Lake resident, a seasonal visitor, a neighbor from a nearby town, or a vacationer looking for local northern Maine charm, there is something here for you. Bring your kids, your friends, and your appetite!
What is happening during the festival?
It is a jam-packed weekend of community fundraisers, live music, delicious food, and local lakeside entertainment. Here is the complete daily schedule of activities:
- Thursday, August 6th
- All Weekend long: Sign up for the “Lake Life” Raffle at Coffin’s General Store to win a water tube, rope, and a $100 gas gift card.
- 6:00 PM: Play in the family or competitive Kickball Games at the Municipal Softball Field.
- 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM: Build your own sundaes at the Congregational Church basement Ice Cream Social.
- Friday, August 7th
- 5:00 PM – Until Gone: Grab pizza slices for $4 each at the Portage Hills Country Club.
- 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM: Dress up for the town-wide Trick-or-Treat event, including a special stop on Station Road.
- Saturday, August 8th
- 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM: Eat a hearty Pancake Breakfast at the Town Hall for $12, sponsored by the Portage Lakers ATV Club.
- 10:00 AM: Race home-built vessels or your own kayak at the West Road public beach Cardboard Boat & Kayak Races.
- 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Explore regional heritage at the Portage Lake Historical Society Museum Open House.
- 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Buy sweet treats at the Whoopie Pie Festival on the Municipal Tennis Courts while enjoying live music by Mike Bartlett and Friends.
- 7:00 PM: Watch the traditional Annual Canoe Carry from Little Machias Lake to Portage Lake.
- 8:45 PM: Marvel at the Professional Fireworks Show launched from the Forestry wharf.
- 9:00 PM: Dance to the live band “Guilty Pleasure” at Portage Hills Country Club ($10 cover, ages 21+).
- Sunday, August 9th
- 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Discover local lore at the second Historical Society Museum Open House.
- 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Shop local artisan wares at the Mini Main Street Market downtown.
- 12:00 PM: March or watch the annual Summer Lake Life Days Parade on Main Street.
- Post-Parade: Gather at Coffin’s General Store for the live “Lake Life” raffle drawing.
